New shop, new opportunities for awesome!!
I'm back! It has been a busy couple of weeks. After almost two weeks of packing, cleaning, driving only to have to repeat the whole process in reverse, we have finally completed our move. The new house comes complete with a nice view and a bigger garage. The same deal I gave my wife applies to this place. She gets the rest of the house to decorate. I get the garage as a shop. I spend what she spends. Here is just a quick post to show the new digs as I get back to blogging.
The pre-chaos shot. This is literally moments after pulling into the new place. The family was busy looking at rooms and closets. I was planning the layout of the shop. It is a full two-car garage this time. It has one wide door that uses a super quiet drive opener. There are some built in shelves that are marginally functional looking. Lighting sucks as all garage lighting usually does. Everything seems great except for the lack of power outlets. I only have three outlets. Two of them are going to be used for the washer and garage door opener. I'll have to do something about that.I unloaded the trailer and moved the bikes and trailer into the shop for the night. This shot is from the door to the garage from the kitchen looking left. Lots of room for the bikes and trailer, especially when the trailer is folded. Like many early houses the garage isn't finished out. The stud walls are dark and suck up any available light from the one overhead light fixture.
Another pic from the same spot looking to the right. These are the shelves I mentioned above. They are not deep, but also not shallow. I'd rather they weren't here actually. I want to get some quasi industrial shelves in place of these. I am thinking to use the right side of the garage as the working side with the bikes more to the left. Like always I'll have to share space with the family for things like our various sporting goods and other items, but with a shop this size, it shouldn't be a problem.
And here is the shop after the moving truck came to the house. Can you spot the bikes? I made it a goal to get the house and garage whipped into shape enough to get a bike ride in over the weekend. The movers came Friday morning. I had a few days to conquer the pile. At first I was trying to keep the mountains of stuff roughly separated, but the junk came off the truck too fast for me to do that. I had a lot work to do as the inside of the house looked very much like the shop and I couldn't get to the garage right away.
I got a ride in yesterday morning as I managed to dig out the Yamaha and get the shop roughly organized. I did a quick 75 mile trip through some beautiful California hills with lots of sweeping curves and all without leaving the base! Some of the roads had "TANK CROSSING' signs which is a new one for me. I had to watch my speed as base police are not as non-chalant as the CHP can be.I know this is not exciting content, but I wanted to get a post out now that I have my internet up and running. I have some things in the works as I continue to set up shop. I'll be sure to give some updates as I make progress. I'm hoping to get to the kart track later this month so I can flesh out the Ninja's changes before hitting a big track later in September.
