More Mini Photo Studio Work
After trying out my mini photo studio, I wanted to explore more photographic techniques with my mini model. I found an article online on forced perspective and thought I'd give that a try. I grabbed the SV and headed back downtown with my trusty iPhone.
The focus lock feature of the iPhone helped to make the depth of field shallow. More cropping helped to get the bike positioned in a way to make it look parked across the street from the stadium in the back ground. You can also see that in all of these shots I've tried to use the rule of thirds to position the bike for the best flow.
Forced perspective is a concept that is used all the time in movies where they take models and film them in front of natural backdrops to add realism to the model scene. There is a good explanation on it here at fstoppers and I used the ideas I got from reading the article to take the shots below.
Here is my first try. Not a bad start. I was able to get the bike positioned in a way so that the concrete of the ledge I set it on blended into the background and looked almost like a sidewalk. I did the focus wrong and got it focused too much in the tail of the bike making the front too blurry spoiling the effect.
I got the focus better in this second go round. Some judicious cropping removed the landscaping features I used as a stand. That did a better job of forcing the perspective. I did use some of the feature lines to make it look like the bike was parked on the street that fades off under the pedestrian bridge.
All of this was just a way to practice my photography and do something Motorbike related while I pass the time before my test. I did these yesterday, but wasn't able to get the post up up until today after the test. I'd like to hear what people think of these shots. Were you fooled for a second? I need to try a photo shoot with some real bikes to compare to these.
And just in case you were fooled so completely that you have no idea what I'm talking about.
