Ninja Race Bike carb cleaning time.

So after he bought the Ninjette, my buddy and I split the duties of resurecting the slightly abandoned bike to get it ready for him to hit the streets. He took it to his garage and stripped the plastics, changed the oil and spark plugs, put in a new air filter and started ordering parts. He dropped it off in my shop where I changed the coolant, installed new brake pads, installed a new left handlebar along with new grips, levers and a new throttle tube. I also changed the brake fluid, cleaned and adjusted the chain and put the wheels with the new Pirelli Diablo tires on. He took the bike back and this is where the story goes wrong.

After all of that work the bike started, but was experiencing a hanging throttle. If you revved the engine, it would stumble then race up the tach only to take its sweet time to drop back down. He played with it for weeks between work until finally he had to transfer to a new assignment overseas and I agreed to buy the bike from him. I had designs to make it a track bike from the get go.
I am still battling the hanging throttle, but am slowly closing in on the cause. I'm hoping I can get it right for the November race a Chuckwalla
Broken down for the Phoenix like rebuild. You really have to love a bike that weighs less than 400 lbs. wet!
Starting the in-depth carb cleaning process. First I pulled them off the bike and disassembled all the internal parts. The small parts got 10 minutes in my ultrasonic cleaner in a Pine-Sol/water bath.
The carb bodies were too big to put in the ultrasonic cleaner. This is my mini parts washer. Take one shoe box sized clear box. Add in your favorite cleaning solution and power it with a water fountain pump. I also did this with my spare TX750 Yamaha cylinder head and cylinders and it does a great job of removing oil sludge and other deposits.
This is the current state of both my shop and the Ninja. I am waiting on parts and working on cleaning up the bike and planning my race bike conversion. I want to get it on the road to make sure all is good with the engine, then I can really start the race bike prep.
