'73 TX750 engine rebuild. Bagging and tagging

I got a half hour in the garbage between work and studying for my PE exam. I took the time to start organizing all the bits and pieces of the bike that have been sitting in various boxes throughout the garage. So far I think I'm only missing one bolt. Unfortunately its the bolt that holds the flywheel to the bike so it is a bit on the important side.

Pieces and parts! I organized my garage a few months ago and finally completed that project a few weeks ago. Most garage people will understand what that means. Now I have all of my TX parts in one place.  I then went through and separated what I have for this engine and what goes in my 'spares' pile.
Here you can see more parts storage and the bucket that will be for spares. After going through everything I have enough parts and pieces for a second complete top end, pistons to valves and everything in between. As I go on to measure everything to check if it is within spec, I'll have a limited supply of replacements if anything is too far out of tolerance.
Relegated to the cardboard box are the cast offs. These are things that I have replaced and don't have any intention of reusing. I don't throw things away as you never know when you'll have to salvage a bit from old hunk of junk. In here I have two gauges that could be rebuilt and the old wiring harness among other things.
And really THE most important part of the whole thing. Without it I'd never tackle a project like this, the Service Manual. I scored this off eBay at the last minute and it has been invaluable in helping me to know what I need to rebuild this bike.

I'm going to take my time and start the measuring and checking process. Once done I'll look to split the cases and find my gearing issues. I also need to check the main bearings, I suspect they may be a little loose. If i can get away with only a top end rebuild and repairing what ever is limiting me to two gears, then I can be riding by January hopefully. Stay tuned!
