GoPros here, GoPros there, GoPros everywhere!

Black Friday brought My Motorbike Obsessions a great new camera in the form of the Nikon D3300 set-up I discussed here. Black Friday also offered up another deal that I couldn't pass up. GoPro Hero 3 Whites were popping up for only $150 each! I snatched up two of these gems for some projects that I'm thinking of doing. I also thought I'd take some time to show you what my camera tool box looks like for My Motorbike photography.

The Hero 3 series was supplanted by the 3+ series which was also eventually supplanted by the Hero 4 series. I guess GoPro was trying to get rid of old stock this holiday season so the prices were slashed to move them out. The Hero 3 still has all the great features that come from the GoPro lineup even though the 3 is a couple of generations behind the current market. While I won't have all of the same choices for video resolution that I have with my 3+ Silver, I have what I need to make second and third angle cameras for awesome ride videos.

My complete camera tool box, minus the Nikon (used to take this picture). Over the last year I've slowly added to my film gear pile n an effort to learn the ins and outs of good video and photo production. I am by no means a pro. In fact I had some troubles getting these shots to look the way I wanted them as I haven't  had a chance to play with the Nikon for a while. Searching through the internet will give you a ton of action camera tips and tricks, some of which I have incorporated here. Others items were homemade as needed.

I keep most of my gear in a couple of clear boxes. I need to get something better, but this works for now. In the big one I keep the big items. The little one is for all of the GoPro buckle mounts and plates and all of the thumb screws to hold them together. I got a roll of the same 3M double sided tape used for the sticky mounts as I have placed and pulled off most of my mounts while trying to find the best camera angles. I also have a suction cup mount (cheap and crappy so I don't use it), an Ikea egg timer time lapse mount, a floaty mount and my homemade passenger peg mount. I picked up a cheap eBay GoPro knock off bag of gear for $25 to supplement the limited gear that came with the 3+. In the pack I got 6 extra sticky mounts and many other cool things you see here.

In this section I have my monopod, my Gorilla grip mini tripod and my mini tripod with the 3+ mounted on it using a tripod mount from the eBay stash. In the foreground I have two GoPro related Kickstarter projects that I backed. On the left is the Campanion. Its a plate and case system that lets me mount my iPhone and GoPro together so that I can use the GoPro app on the phone like an LCD view screen. I have extra plates so that I can mount the camera to any flat surface. In the right foreground I have the Lime Fuel battery and backdoor. With this battery I can get over five hours of shooting time on the GoPro. It doesn't work well mounted on the motorcycle due to the weight of the battery, but for stationary shots it is amazing. I don't have to worry about battery life which is always a concern with the GoPro.

Here is the eBay chest mount that can be found all over the net for about $5 and the official GoPro head strap mount. I used the chest strap mount to film my laps at the SoCal Supermoto class I took back in April. It was very stable and gave a good point of view angle while I was turning laps around Adams Kart Track in Riverside.

Aside from the cameras, all of the other gear was less than $75 total. I have a mount for almost every situation and now can hook up all three cameras to my Ninja race bike for cool race footage. Once I get the race bike complete and tested, I'll do some test shots and post them to my YouTube channel so you can see what you get with all of this gear. I can't wait!
